7 Month Old Sleep Schedule
Evidence-based sleep schedule for 7-month-old babies with wake windows, nap times, and bedtime recommendations
Quick Summary
Sample 7-Month-Old Sleep Schedule
Based on a 7:00 AM wake-up time. Many 7-month-olds transition from 3 naps to 2 naps during this period.
Understanding Wake Windows for 7-Month-Olds
At 7 months, babies can handle 2.5 to 3 hours of awake time between sleep periods. Wake windows lengthen as your baby consolidates sleep:
- First wake window (morning): 2.5 hours - after a full night of sleep
- Middle wake window: 2.75-3 hours - building sleep pressure for second nap
- Last wake window (before bed): 3-3.5 hours - longest stretch ensuring nighttime sleepiness
3-to-2 Nap Transition
Many 7-month-olds begin transitioning from 3 naps to 2 naps. Signs your baby is ready: fighting the third nap, taking very short naps, or showing longer wake windows. This transition typically happens between 6-9 months.
During the transition, some days may require 3 naps while others work with 2. This is normal! Gradually extend wake windows and consolidate naps over 1-2 weeks. An early bedtime (6:00-6:30 PM) can help on transition days.
