1 Month Old Sleep Schedule
Evidence-based sleep schedule for 1-month-old babies with wake windows, feeding times, and sleep recommendations
Quick Summary
Sample 1-Month-Old Sleep Schedule
At 1 month, babies still follow a feed-wake-sleep cycle every 2-3 hours. This is a flexible guide - your baby will set the rhythm.
Understanding Wake Windows for 1-Month-Olds
At 1 month old, babies can only handle very short wake windows of 45-90 minutes. This includes feeding time! Watch for sleepy cues:
- Early cues: Yawning, red eyebrows, staring into space, fussiness
- Feed-wake-sleep cycle: Feed when baby wakes, brief awake time, then back to sleep
- Flexible timing: At this age, follow baby's cues rather than clock-watching
Night Feedings Are Normal
At 1 month, babies need to eat every 2-3 hours around the clock. Expect 2-3 night feedings, which is completely normal and necessary for growth. Day-night confusion is also common at this age.
To help establish day-night rhythms: Keep daytime bright and social, nighttime dark and quiet. Use white noise and swaddling for better sleep stretches.
